Position Summary

The Senior Director, Financial Planning & R&D Finance is responsible for overseeing budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and strategic finance initiatives across the enterprise, with a primary focus on partnering with the R&D organization. Reporting directly to the VP of FP&A, this pivotal role plays a critical part in shaping and executing financial strategies that support and align with Rockets Financial goals.

 

As a key leader within the FP&A function, this role collaborates closely with senior leadership and functional heads within R&D. The Senior Director will serve as a trusted advisor and business partner to R&D leadership, leveraging financial insights to influence strategic decisions and drive operational excellence.

 

This individual is expected to lead enterprise-wide financial processes while championing financial discipline within the R&D function. They will work alongside cross-functional teams and matrix partners to identify, analyze, and recommend innovative processes and strategies that address complex business challenges and enhance financial performance.

 

The Senior Director, Financial Planning & R&D Finance will play a pivotal role in driving sustainable growth and operational efficiency through robust financial management practices, fostering a culture of financial accountability, and ensuring alignment between organizational, financial, and R&D priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a trusted advisor to R&D senior leadership, providing strategic financial insights and guidance.
  • Collaborate closely with R&D executives to understand their strategic priorities, operational challenges, and financial goals. Proactively identify opportunities to optimize resource allocation and mitigate financial risks
  • Lead business cases, ROI, NPV &, pricing analysis of near- and long-term business plans to understand impacts to the organization
  • Lead finance-related projects and initiatives including system implementations, and process improvements.
  • Lead the development and execution of enterprise-wide financial planning processes, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives and financial strategies. Collaborate cross functionally to drive standardization, consistency, and accuracy in budget submissions and reviews
  • Continuously evaluate and enhance the financial planning process to improve efficiency, transparency, and accountability across the organization. Collaborate with cross-functional teams and departments to understand business drivers and operational challenges. Provide financial insights and recommendations to drive business performance.
  • Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting. Interpret financial results and communicate key findings to stakeholders..
  • Partner closely with cross-functional teams including commercial, procurement, manufacturing, supply chain, and accounting to ensure alignment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field; MBA or CPA preferred.
  • 15 years of progressive experience in financial planning and analysis
  •  5+ years leadership experience in the biotech/pharmaceutical industry Extensive knowledge of financial modeling, forecasting techniques, and performance metrics
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights
  • Deep demonstrated experience in strategic planning, budgeting, and business partnering
  • Demonstrated ability to influence decisions through clear, data-driven analysis, and strong presentation
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills with the ability to work effectively cross functionally with all levels of the organization
  • Possesses judgment and ability to manage multiple workstreams
  • Ability to manage through uncertainty
